Born in Cairo, Egypt. B.A Graduate from the American University in Cairo. In 1961 travelled to the United States to pursue his graduate studies at the Yale School of Drama. Graduated from Yale in 1964 with the Master of Fine Arts degree in Directing.
Following Yale Asaad spent several years teaching and directing. As a Stage Director he has directed over 100 productions at several renowned theatre companies in the US, including Seattle Repertory, South Coast Repertory Theatre, The Old Globe Theatre, San Diego, Mark Taper Forum Lab, Delaware Festival of the Arts, Fremont Centre Theatre, Pasadena, and The Santa Barbara Theatre of which he was Co-Founder and Co-Artistic Director.
For Television, has directed over 550 episodes for all of the major networks in the US, including, among others, the series THE OFFICE, EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND, TWO AND A HALF MEN, DHARMA AND GREG, WKRP IN CINCINNATI, and SABRINA. He was Series Director for, among others, WHO'S THE BOSS? THE FACTS OF LIFE, SISTER SISTER, MARRIED PEOPLE, IN THE HOUSE and GEORGE. He directed the pilot episodes for the series FAMILY TIES, MARRIED PEOPLE, GEORGE and BUREAU.
Also for Television he directed the TV Movie THE FACTS OF LIFE GOES TO PARIS shot entirely on location in Paris and other locations.
For International Television served as Advisor and Creative Consultant for Tele-Images, a prominent French Production Company based in Paris, creating and producing situation comedies for French television.
As a performer, appeared extensively in concerts and top clubs in Egypt. He was a founding member of The Skyrockets, the first pop and jazz musical group in the country, headlining long running engagements at the famed Auberge des Pyramides, the Nile Hilton, the floating nightclub Kassed Kheir, and the popular Casino El Shagara.
He was a protégé of famed Egyptian film director Youssef Chahine and appeared as an actor in the director's acclaimed masterpiece "Bab el Hadid" ("Cairo Station") as well as in two other major features also directed by Mr. Chahine.
